The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) is committed to reducing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and sexual violence among African youth by supporting and collaborating with organizations that provide preventive education. Experience the positive impact we are making by learning more about Our Work. CTAOP's efforts began from a partnership formed in 2007 between Academy Award-winning actress and native South African, Charlize Theron, and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF). EIF is a leading charitable organization of the entertainment industry distributing hundreds of millions of dollars to charitable initiatives addressing critical health, education and social issues. EIF manages charitable services funds such as ours for individuals and companies within the entertainment community to help them achieve a meaningful impact in the world.
Our First ProjectIn collaboration with Oprah's Angel Network our first project provided lead funding to create a mobile health and computer clinic designed for improving the health and social development of Umkhanyakude district youth in the KwaZulu-Natal province. The mobile clinics are owned and operated by Mpilonhle, a community-based, non-governmental charitable organization responsible for these life-saving services. Additional support from the United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has enabled many more mobile clinics to serve over 8,000 community members and 10,000 students from 12 high schools. Each clinic services schools one week every month and offers access to a nurse and social worker or psychologist. Annually, every student receives a minimum of:
Our Second ProjectIn Summer of 2010, our organization with the ONEXONE foundation, broke ground on a new collaborative initiative called Home Field Advantage (HFA). The HFA project aims to build soccer fields with clean water sources. The fields and the clean water wells will create an ideal space for gathering, uplifting the community, and also give Mpilonhle's mobile health units prime locations to help more individuals. Help us bring more clinics, soccer fields and clean water to South Africa. Your decision will change lives. Check out Lorrie's Blog here! ![]()
